About the site

What this site covers

2A03.org is about the Ricoh 2A03 — the processor that carried the NES and Famicom sound hardware — and about the music written for its five channels.

The site is organised in six sections: the channels themselves, the year the hardware was fixed, the scores composers built inside it, the tracker tools still in use, the chip’s life after the console, and the rival chips of the same era.

Technical claims — register widths, channel counts, chip revisions — cite the NESDev documentation or a dated teardown at the point they are made. Works, people and companies are named specifically so that a reader can go and check.
